Hello!

I’m Ruth Anne Thornton, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Registered Nurse based in Redding, California.

Breastfeeding can be one of the most beautiful experiences a parent can have, but at the same time it can be challenging and full of heartbreaks when things do not go as expected.

My job is to help support you and your family. Together, we will find the underlying issues you currently face and create a care plan to fulfill your breastfeeding goals.

Background

My life-long love of babies has led me to a 18 year nursing career. I have worked in a variety of positions including pediatrics, newborn nursery, OB/Labor and Delivery and currently NICU. During my career, I noticed that a lack of educated support forced many families to struggle with feeding their babies. As a result, I resolved to be a solution to this problem and received additional training to become an IBCLC.

Not only am I a nurse and lactation consultant, but I am also a wife and mom of three boys. I was able to successfully breastfeed them all, but each experience with them was unique -- what worked for one didn't work for the others. The different challenges I faced helped me problem solve and think outside the box, while at the same time, use the evidence-based information I received in my professional training to give my boys what they each needed.

Now, I want to be a resource for you and use my career and personal experience to help you create a personalized breastfeeding plan that will work for you and your baby.

Let's work together!

Having a private lactation consultant (IBCLC) helps assure breastfeeding gets off to a great start or continues along the path of success. It is an investment in your breastfeeding relationship. A conservative estimate for a year's worth of infant formula is $2,000. The money you spend today with an IBCLC can save you considerable amounts in the near future.

TESTIMONIES

JESSICA

My daughter was about two weeks old  when I reached out to Ruth Anne for breastfeeding support. I was experiencing horrible pain due to latching issues and sobbed every time my sweet baby needed to eat. She saw me as soon as possible and gave me the tools and tips I needed to instantly experience some relief. Now my baby is 3 months old and breastfeeding couldn’t be going any better. Ruth Anne helped me avoid throwing in the towel on my breastfeeding journey. I am beyond thankful for her support when I needed it most!

TAWNI

Ruth Anne, We just wanted to say thank you so much for taking such good care of us.  I truly wish you had been there for our first baby! Maybe I wouldn’t have struggled so much with breastfeeding.  Thanks to you, my baby has more than doubled her weight in 2 months! Not only that, but you seriously decreased my anxiety about breastfeeding. Thank you so much!

LIZBETH

Ruth Anne was so helpful when my son and I were struggling with breastfeeding last year! He is my 4th baby, and I still had much to learn! All babies are different, and I was so upset, tired, and lost. She took the time to sit with us and ask a ton of questions, give ideas and most importantly, eased my heart and made me feel capable and so much more calm about it all. Her nursing background meant she knew what to expect, from both the baby and I, and how to help. She made the time to make me feel in control and confident in mommyhood! She is such a joy to know!!

Testimonies

KATE

Ruth Anne is the reason I was able to breastfeed my second child! I pumped with my first exclusively but was hoping not to do it this time. The lactation consultant at our local hospital just wanted to give me a nipple shield and send me on my way. Ruth Anne showed me how to position my daughter for the best feeding position. I’d say it went well as she had a triple chin by 9 weeks of age! LOL! I still credit her to this day when I share my breastfeeding story with friends!

AMANDA

As a first time mom, Ruth Anne helped take the pressure off of learning to breastfeed and really helped my baby and I relax so that there would be a good and proper latch. I felt so relieved and confident in myself after her help. I couldn’t have had a better teacher.

SHIANNE

I can’t say enough good things about Ruth Anne! She is so wonderful to work with, and not only did she solve our problem but took the time to get to the root of what was causing it. Her knowledge is comforting, and her presence is even more so. I am so grateful to her!
